How to Play Scratch Chess
Chess's primary objective is to checkmate the king of your opponent while defending your own. It will be useful to have basic chess knowledge and rules before starting the game. Here, your opponent is an engine.
- Decide which chess pieces you will start the game with from the main menu. If you tap on black pieces, you start with the black ones. Or vice versa.
- When you enter the game, you will see a section on the right side of the screen. From here, you can take back the piece you moved or adjust the difficulty level according to your needs.
- If you want to go back to the beginning, you can restart the game by clicking the "Restart" button on the right.
Starting Position
The board is made up of 64 squares that are grouped in an 8 by 8 grid. Eight pawns, two rooks, two knights, two bishops, one king, one queen, and two rooks are the 16 pieces that each player begins with. The following is how the pieces are placed on the board:
- Rook, Knight, Bishop, Queen (depending on color), King, Bishop, Knight, and Rook make up the back rank (from left to right).
- First place: Pawns.
Controls
- Use your mouse and tap to the chess piece you want to move. When you tap on the piece, you will see which direction it can go. You can not move the piece anywhere other than these directions.
